Breakthrough Breast Cancer is leading the fight against breast cancer on three fronts; research, campaigning and education. Because early diagnosis is key to survival, our education and health information work is raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, making sure that women get that vital head start. Our campaigning work has led to improvements in the treatment and care for people with breast cancer.

Sadly one in nine women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives, with over 46,000 women diagnosed each year. These women are our mothers, daughters, friends and loved ones.

Almost 10 years ago, we opened the first dedicated breast cancer research centre in the UK and it’s here that we developed new drugs that pioneer new treatments. With three new research units in Manchester, Edinburgh and London we are building a network of research excellence into the cause and treatment of breast cancer. At each location, our scientists work alongside clinicians making sure that patients feel the benefits of research findings as soon as possible. The discoveries made by these scientists will make a very real difference to how breast cancer affects our lives in the future.

At the Inspirational Awards for Women we’re delighted to have the opportunity to recognise the tremendous achievement of Breakthrough fundraisers. One award will be presented to Breakthrough’s most inspirational fundraiser.

Breakthrough needs to raise £17 million each year in order to continue our research, campaigning and education work and with the support of events such as the Inspiration Awards for Women we can work towards our goal of a future free from the fear of breast cancer.
