YolanDa Brown won a MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act in 2008, following the success of her EPs; ‘Finding My Voice’ and ‘A Step Closer’ released in 2007 and 2008 respectively. In 2008 she was proud to tour with the infamous Motown band The Temptations.
YolanDa’s passion is her saxophone and that is clear from the moment you hear her play. She combines jazz with various genres from soul to Latin, R&B to gospel and creates a unique diverse sound.
YolanDa has performed at prestigious jazz events around the world, including the Rotterdam Carnival, Frankfurt Auto Show and at Spain's Isla Vuelta's Festival. She has played before the High Commission and at the Ocho Rios Festival in Jamaica.
She has shared the stage with some of music’s legends, including Alexander O'Neal, The Temptations, Mica Paris, Omar, Soweto Kinch and Sway.
YolanDa Brown hails from Barking, East London. It was in the East end that YolanDa honed her music skills at a very young age. At the age of 6 she was learning the piano and the violin, but when she discovered the saxophone at 7 years old it was instinctive as if she were born to play it; she hasn’t looked back since.
