back to Awards & NomineesThe Inspiration Awards - Kylie Minogue

One of very few pop artists whose success has spread over more than two decades, Kylie released her first single ‘Locomotion’ in 1987 and now holds the record for the most played female artist on UK radio over the last 20 years. On 17 May 2005, during her Showgirl Tour, millions of fans around the world were devastated to learn that Kylie had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer witnessed thousands more web hits and calls to its information line immediately following Kylie’s diagnosis and carried out a survey which showed that over half of women in the UK are more aware of breast cancer since the news of Kylie’s diagnosis broke, especially in Kylie’s age group.

It was typical of Kylie to make her first public appearance after her surgery by visiting a children's cancer ward at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital. Kylie spent 12 months focusing on her treatment and recovery and made an emotional return to the stage in Australia in November 2006 before taking the tour back to the UK.

As a hugely successful pop artist, business woman and fashion icon and a recent recipient of an OBE, Kylie is an inspiration to women around the world and it is clear that she is more determined than ever to take on new and exciting projects and that will continue to inspire.
