back to Awards & NomineesThe Inspiration Awards - Alison Frankland
Alison Frankland of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours list awarded with an MBE for voluntary services to swimming in Guernsey. This award recognises her commitment and dedication to the development of high quality swimming services to the community of Guernsey, the establishment of life-saving and teacher/training courses, charity fund raising efforts and her involvement in the coaching and team management of four Commonwealth Games and eight Island Games.
An emotional Alison said “I am overwhelmed and would never have achieved so much without the support from my family and friends.” “I’ve also been very lucky to work with such dedicated athletes and I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to receive this award”.
Wanting her two boys to learn to swim 30 years ago, Alison became a founder member of the Beau Sejour Swim School. The school started with a hundred pupils and now caters for 2,500 pupils a week from babies to senior citizens and offers a variety of aquatic courses. When the Swim School decided to take part in competition, the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swim team was born. Since those early days the competitive squads have achieved success at National and International level with several swimmers representing Great Britain.
